Sustainable Direction was proud to present the coveted Value Award at the 2017 Constructing Excellence in London & South East Awards.

The award was presented on 29th June at the annual awards dinner at Lancaster London, to the Bank Station Upgrade Project.

Sustainable Direction’s Kris Atkins – Head Judge of the Value Award – said of the project:

“In this category we look for evidence that whole life cost has been a consideration from the outset, combining capital costs of constructing the facility with maintenance, operational and occupational costs.  “It is the project team’s approach of putting the station’s users and operators’ interests front and centre of every strategic and operational decision that makes this an outstanding beacon of best practice.”

The Bank Station Upgrade will greatly improve passenger access, circulation and interchange, increasing its capacity by 45% and reducing journey times.  The pioneering use of Innovative Contractor Engagement (ICE) to select the best principal contractor (Dragados) and the supply chain placed value at the core of the project from the outset.  BCSU’s client team conceived and developed (ICE) to ensure all good relevant ideas proposed during bidding are rewarded, developed and implemented in the project.  All the teams involved in this process have been actively engaged throughout the design process leading to the most optimal solutions which are ‘Best for Bank’.
